Gases trapped in these meteorites match the composition of the Martian atmosphere as measured by the Viking spacecraft, which landed on Mars in the mid-1970s. Along with the major meteor showers, there are also a number of minor meteor showers which, while greater in number than the major streams, are difficult to detect above the background sporadic meteor rate.

A new NASA mission will scan the entire sky with an infrared telescope - like a powerful set of night vision goggles to search for cool, or failed, stars, called brown dwarfs, and also dark comets and cometary fragments, of the type proposed by Professor Wickramasinghe and his team, that pose a previously unrecognised threat to our planet. Some are as big as boulders, some are as big as mountains, and some are as big as the moons that orbit many of the planets.

May 5, 2016 The Eta Aquarid meteor shower was spawned by the famous Comet Halley. In 2011, astronomers saw evidence of comets pummeling a planet orbiting the star Eta Corvi, which is about 59 light-years away from us. A portion of a meteoroid that survives it's passage through the atmosphere. Its trajectory was chosen so that there would be less than a 1% change it would take a hit. Discrete dust jets were coming off the nucleus surface, but the resolution was not good enough to reveal the source of the jets.

One of the most ubiquitous substances in the universe is a molecule called formamide. Precise dating of meteorites and lunar rock samples indicate that the solar system is 4.6 to 5.1 billion years old. For hundreds of years, comets were spotted by astronomers either watching the skies by eye, or slowly scanning with a telescope. This is the third crop circle formation to appear in California and appeared at a site where there has been considerable local protest against the toll road construction, making a wide path through the last small piece of remaining wilderness of Laguna Canyon.

Kuiper suggested that the solar nebula did not end at the orbit of what was then considered the most distant planet, Pluto, at about 39 AU, but that it continued on to about 50 AU. Moving Tanzania – Kilimanjiro Film Institute ... Some can be dangerous, even catastrophic, for life on Earth - and we need to know which. Asteroids are the small rocky objects in the Solar System. Near to the central proto- sun, the nebular temperature will be very high, and consequently no solid matter can exist.
